Updating: News about 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake

CODE has endeavoured to provide full support to, and work together with our partner organization, the NGO Collaboration Centre for Hanshin Quake Rehabilitation.

The Centre dispatched their staff to the disaster stricken area yesterday and began emergency rescue operation. Approximately 240,000 people were urged to evacuate the area amid growing fears of heavy rain that could bring landslides and further damage.

Saturday’s magnitude-7.3 quake struck at 01:25 close to the city of Kumamoto, which had been hit by a magnitude-6.4 quake on Thursday night. Aftershocks continue to occur along the Oita-Kumamoto Tectonic Line (extension of Japan Median Tectonic Line: Japan’s longest fault system).

We will continue to provide updated information about the Kumamoto Earthquake, in Japanese, English and Mandarin Chinese. We are currently gathering the information about the Ecuador Earthquake, and will transmit the news to the world as soon as we can.
